Asia Cup 2016: India clear favorites to beat Pakistan, says Wasim Akram

New Delhi: Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram on Monday tagged India as clear favorites to beat Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

The Men in Blue will take on Shahid Afridi's side in the fourth match of the tournament on March 4 in Mirpur.

For fans of the two teams, this match is nothing less than a final.

“Yes, that'll be a good game to look forward to and given the way India are playing right now, they're clear favorites,” Akram told the Times of India.

The former Pakistan skipper also lauded Asian Cricket Council's decision to conduct the tournament in T20 format this year.

“The Asia Cup, this year, assumes a lot of significance particularly because of the Twenty20 format that it'll be played in. It was a very sensible decision on part of the Asian Cricket Council. Out of the last three World T20 champions, three are participating in this Asia Cup, so that quotient alone adds so much excitement to the tournament. Then, Bangladesh have been an unbeatable side at home. This edition has a lot of potential and will help teams pick their best combinations for World T20,” he further added.

The two sides have not played since their World Cup duel in 2015, as the proposed bilateral series in December did not materialize.

After the Asia Cup, India and Pakistan will cross swords in the World T20 in Dharamshala.
