Asia Cup 2016: At Shere Bangla National Stadium, Bangladesh take revenge of 2012 final defeat against Pakistan

Mirpur: In 2012, it was an emotional sight where almost all of the Bangladeshi cricketers had tears in their eyes after a loss against Pakistan in final of the Asia Cup.

It was a close match where the hosts fell short by just two runs.

Shakib Al Hasan, along with Mushfiqur Rahim, two of Bangladesh's most experienced cricketers, held each other and wept.

On Wednesday night, Bangladeshi cricketers once again got into a huddle after the match, and even if some of them would have got emotional, it was only because they had taken the revenge and had knocked out Shahid Afridi and his boys out of the tournament.

The players looked more confident, more determined to deliver their best against Pakistan, a side who had to pay a price for their inconsistency in the tournament.

Playing without their rising pacer Mustafizur Rahman, Mashrafe Mortaza and his boys did well to bowl Pakistan out for 129. In reply, Soumya Sarkar (48) played a fine knock at the top of the order and Mashrafe Mortaza and Mahmudullah added unbeaten 27-run stand for the sixth wicket which proved to be decisive.

Bangladesh will now take on India, who are unbeaten in the tournament so far, in the final, and it remains to be seen whether they can give their fans another reason to celebrate by clinching their maiden Asia Cup title.
