Inverarity backs spinner Agar to turn into top Oz all-rounder in future

Sydney: Australian national selector John Inverarity believes that Ashes debutant Ashton Agar can eventually turn into a fully fledged all-rounder inside the top six for the national team.

The teenaged spinner opened the batting for the Perth Scorchers in the Champions League campaign in India, and there is a concerted focus on his batting following his record 98 on Test debut in England.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, although Inverarity admitted that Agar needs to consolidate his bowling at first-class level, he believes that Agar can easily be a No.6 or 7 or even higher up the order following his impressive debut and his following innings at the Trent Bridge Test in the summer Ashes.

Stating that Agar might be a genuine all-rounder picked in the side for either batting or bowling formats, Inverarity also said that there have been many cricketers over the years who have started out in some format and have ended up excelling in a different format.
