Another blow for Chris Gayle: Ian Chappell calls for worldwide contract ban for Windies star

New Delhi: The Chris Gayle row has entered its fifth day since his controversial interview with Mel McLaughlin during Australia's Big Bash League tournament.

The West Indies star is facing the heat for his improper comments and now former Australia skipper Ian Chappell has lashed out at him and has asked Cricket Australia to propose a worldwide contracting ban on Chris Gayle following the incident with the Network Ten reporter.

According to a report in the SBS, ex-Australian skipper Chappell said that CA needed to send a zero-tolerance message on what he viewed as a totally inappropriate behaviour in a sport trying to gain traction with women.

Chappell claimed that he wouldn't have a problem if Cricket Australia banned him from playing club cricket in the country. “I wouldn't have a problem if Cricket Australia said to the clubs, `he's never to be contracted again in this country.”

Chappell went a step further and said Cricket Australia should ask the ICC to ban him from participating in worldwide matches across the globe.

Earlier, Gayle was fined $10,000 by his BBL side Melbourne Renegades for his on-air mid-match comments on Monday night.

The big-hitting West Indian batsman's hopes of playing in the BBL next season could also be over, given Cricket Australia (CA) has the power to essentially terminate any participating players' contract.

Several female journalists have hit out at the flamboyant West Indian star, terming him as a repeat offender.

Some of them shared their experiences of interviewing the left-hander.
