AB de Villiers: Can Superman stretch his workload in whites beyond two Tests?

New Delhi: South African Test skipper AB de Villiers has made it clear that he is no longer motivated to continue playing in all formats of the game.

The maverick right-hander, who recently became South Africa's new Test skipper after the stepping down of Hashim Amla, on Wednesday gave the cricket fraternity plenty to ponder over about his future plans.

“For two or three years I’ve been searching for the right answers to play a little less cricket in one way or another, to keep myself fresh and enjoying the game,” he said.

Despite AB saying that he was totally focused on the upcoming two Tests against England, he also made his point clear about not enjoying playing in the traditional format of the game.

“I’m still very committed to the job,” he said. “The two Test matches now is all that I am focusing on. There’s a nice big break of six months before we play Test cricket again. Lots of things can happen before then. But for now I am as committed as I can be and very hungry to make a success of these two Test matches.”

He is a sensational batsman in the shortest format of the game, and with franchises ready to sign him with lucrative offers, it remains to be seen whether the 31-year-old can represent his country in whites for long.
