New Delhi: Sri Guru Hargobind ji happens to be the sixth Sikh Guru. He is also known as 'Miri Piri Ka Malik' among the devotees as he carried two swords of Miri and Piri. This year, the birth anniversary or Prakash Utsav of Guru Hargobind Ji happens to be celebrated on June 5, 2017.

It is believed that the Sikh Guru was only 11 years of age when acquired the title of a 'Guru' on June 11, 1606, after his father Guru Arjan was executed by the Mughal emperor Jahangir.

In fact, he is the one who started the military tradition in Sikhism to fight with the Mughals. He had the longest tenure as Guru, lasting 37 years, 9 months and 3 days. Guru Hargobind Ji had three wives Mata Damodari, Mata Nanaki and Mata Maha Devi.

He built the Akal Takht in 1608 – which is now one of five Takhts (Seats of Power) of the Sikhs.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the state government has declared June 10 as a holiday. Also, on July 5, an event will be held at the historical Gurudwara of Guru Hargobind Ji in Srinagar.

Sikhs across the nation celebrated the big day with offering prayers and seeking blessings of the Guru.
