New Delhi: Popular Telugu actor and comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao passed away on Monday morning at the age of 61, reportedly. 

According to a report published in The Hindu, Gundu was suffering from kidney-related ailments and passed away at his home at 3 am. He is survived by a son.

Rao, who was born on October 10, 1956, started off as a theatre-artist. His first stage appearance was in a play called Ravana Brahma in Vijayawada.

His career took off when filmmaker Jandhyala offered him a role in a film titled 'Aaha Na Pellanta' where he played a groom’s father. He has acted in over 400 movies and was a household name in Andhra Pradesh.

But it was the TV series 'Amrutam' that earned him critical acclaim and made him the iconic star that he was.

According to News Minute, Rao’s last will be performed at Erragadda Burial Ground in Hyderabad’s SR Nagar.
