Suriya beats Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and other Bollywood superstars – Here’s how

Mumbai: Tamil superstar Suriya has surpassed Bollywood heavyweights Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan by achieving a feat no other actor could, this year. The Singam of Southern cinema, Suriya won the ‘Golden tweet’ of 2017 in India for posting the second look for his Tamil film, Thaana Serndha Kootam which was retweeted over 70,000 times till December 5, reports suggest.

For the unversed, Suriya is the son of legendary actor Sivakumar. He is married to Tamil actress Jyothika and his younger brother Karthi is also an actor.

Interestingly, neither Salman Khan’s Tubelight and Tiger Zinda Hai first look/posters nor Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees or Jab Harry Met Sejal could garner so many retweets.

Salman’s Eid release – Tubelight and Shah Rukh’s Jab Harry Met Sejal tanked at the Box Office surprisingly given the fact that fans of the superstars were eagerly looking forward to these films release.

And now it would be interestingly to see if Salman’s Tiger Zinda Hai directed by Ali Abbas Zafar manages to spin magic at the Box Office when it makes a splash on the silverscreen on December 22.

Moreover, regional did far better than Bollywood this year with blockbusters like SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion starring Prabhas and Illayathalapathy’s Mersal.

Regional cinema ruled Twitter and the popularity of the hashtags #baahubali2 and #Mersal proved the point stated.

Prabhas starrer Baahubali: The Conclusion also starring Rana Daggubati, Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia and Nasser, went on to become the first Indian film to mint over Rs 1000 crores worldwide. Even Vijay’s Mersal grabbed a spot on the list of most successful Tamil films by grossing over Rs 250 crores worldwide.
