NEW DELHI: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is on a week-long tour to India, will meet Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday. The meeting is slated to take place in Amritsar.

The meeting is expected to help strengthen the close Indo-Canadian business ties as well as the deep-rooted people-to-people relations between the two countries.

"Look forward to meeting Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau in Amritsar on Wednesday. I’m hopeful that this meeting will help strengthen the close Indo-Canadian business ties as well as the deep-rooted people-to-people relations between our two countries," tweeted the Punjab CM.

The 46-year-old Canadian PM arrived in New Delhi on Saturday on the invitation by his counterpart Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in key areas of mutual interest trade and investment, energy, science and innovation, higher education, infrastructure development, skill development and space, a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs said.

Trudeau kickstarted his India trip with a visit to Taj Mahal in Agra with his family on Sunday.

Earlier today, he visited the Sabarmati Ashram, following which, he attended an event at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
