Since the Taliban tookover Kabul on August 15 it has prompted residents to flee the country in a bid to avoid the militant organisation’s impending rule. Several heart rendering images have made their way out of the war-torn counttr with most desparate of people tying themselves to the wheels of an aircraft leaving Kabul.

US to take in 10,000 Afghans as refugees

The US Department of State on August 2 had announced Priority 2 (P-2) designation granting US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) access to certain Afghan nationals and their eligible family members. As per reports, the US is expected to take in over 10,000 Afghan nationals, which will mostly include the people who helped the government.

The UK government offered to set up home in the UK for those who have been forced to flee their homes or face threats of persecution from the Taliban. The government aims to resettle 20,000 Afghan nationals.

Canada has offered refuge

Canada has also promised to take 20,000 Afghan nationals. The government said passports or COVID-19 negative tests from the Afghan passengers is not required and is deferring biometric screening, as per globalnews.ca.

Europe is a bit wary of taking refugees

Europe is a bit wary of taking refugees

Most European nations are wary of taking in Afghan refugees fearing a repeat of the 2015 migrant crisis. They fear without urgent humanitarian help Afghans will start moving recreating a situation similar to 2015 migrant crisis, as per a confidential German diplomatic memo obtained by The Associated Press.

India is dealing with refugee issue on a case-by-case basis

India does not have a separate statute for refugees, and until now has been dealing with refugees on a case-by-case basis. Currently, India has introduced a new category of e-visa for Afghan nationals to fast-track their applications for entry into the country. These visas will be valid for six months only and it is not clear what will happen after this period elapses.
