Winning IPL 2010

Winning IPL 2010

MS Dhoni was very close to winning the inaugural season of IPL. However, Shane Warne's Rajasthan Royals had other ideas. RR won the title that year but Dhoni had vowed to come back stronger. CSK could not reach th final in 2009. But in 2010, despite an on and off group stage campaign, CSK played their best cricket in the knockouts and clinched the title. That was the first title win and the firsts are always special, arn't they?

MS Dhoni is known as Captain Cool but in this IPL 2019 game vs RR, he lost it when a certain wide was not called by the onfield umpire. Dhoni was so angry that he walked dow to the middle from the dugout and had a word with the umpire in an unlike Dhoni manner. (Source: Twitter)

Bullying an umpire

Bullying an umpire

This was a Dhoni effect and we cannot blame Dhoni for it. Umpire Paul Reiffel, from Australia, during a CSK vs SRH match refused to give a certain wide. It was a clear wide, and Reiffel was going to give it as well but he changed his mind at the last-minute with one glance of Dhoni at him.

Later, West Indian commentator had told ESPNcricinfo, "He started calling it a wide, he looked up, saw Dhoni and he changed his mind. I am someone who is sympathetic to the umpires because it is a difficult job, but tonight I will say that Reiffel made a mistake." (Source: Twitter)

Winning third IPL trophy to mark comeback of CSK

Winning third IPL trophy to mark comeback of CSK

What a comeback this was. CSK came back to IPL 2018 after serving a two-year ban. Dhoni's team was called The Daddy's Army as most of the players were over 30 years of age. But that did not mean anything to Captain Cool. He had a great season with bat, coming to bat slightly up the order and inspired his team to win their third IPL title on return to IPL. It remains one of the highest points in Dhoni's overall career. (Source: Twitter)

IPL 2021 win

IPL 2021 win

CSK played a very bad IPL 2020 season and many believed that MS Dhoni did not have it anymore in himself to pull off another title. In the latter stage of this season, CSK captain was asked by a commentator at the toss whether this was going to be his last season with CSK, to which MSD had repled: "Definitely not". That answer became a trending topic on Twitter. It gained a cult status when CSK, under leadership of Dhoni, went on to become champions for the fourth time. Dhoni proved once again that he was still good enough to win titles. (Source: Twitter)
