Sri Lanka legend who played the first T20 World Cup in 2007 and helped his side win the 2014 tournament is right at the top of the list with 1016 runs in 31 matches. 

India's talisman is just 29 runs behind Mahela and it is most likely that he will take over this list in the next game against South Africa. Virat has an avergae of 89 in the T20 WCs. He has scored 989 runs. 

This man was a legend in T20Is and not just in domestic leagues. Gayle, who was the first man to score a century in the shortest format of the game at the international level has 965 runs to his name. 

India captain Rohit Sharma also finds himself on the list having played every T20 World Cup since its inception in 2007. Rohit scored 904 runs in the mega event. 

With 897 runs in the T20 WC history, the Sri Lankan legend is fifth on the list. He has the highest of 96 in the format.
