IPL 2021: From Rishabh Pant to R Ashwin, top five contenders likely to lead Delhi Capitals in absence of Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer had dislocated his shoulder, while fielding in the first ODI against England.
Delhi Capitals suffered a major setback as their skipper Shreyas Iyer sustained an injury on his left shoulder, which will see the cricketer miss the entire season of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, starting from April 9. The middle-order batsman had dislocated his shoulder, while fielding in the first ODI against England. Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal, meanwhile, issued a statement on his official Twitter profile on Iyer. Jindal wished him a speedy recovery and insisted that India ‘needs him in the T20 World Cup’.
In his absence, we take a look at the major figures who can possibly take the baton from Iyer.
Steve Smith: Delhi Capitals
Prithvi Shaw: Delhi Capitals
Rishabh Pant: Delhi Capitals
Rishabh Pant is arguably in the form of his life and his recent heroics on the pitch may tempt the franchise to hand over the helm to the 23-year-old. As per a report in the Times Of India, Delhi Capitals have groomed the young wicketkeeper-batsman over the last three years, moulding him into a future leader of the franchise. (BCCI)
Ajinkya Rahane: Delhi Capitals
Ajinkya Rahane shares a great reputation as a team leader, something which was evident in India's last tour to Australia. Under his helm, a second-string Indian team defeated Australia and reatined the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has also led IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals in previous editions. (BCCI)
