PM Narendra Modi visits Leh amid border tensions with China, praises Indian Army

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the soldiers at Nimmoo in Leh said that age of expansionism is over, this is the age of development.

PM Modi Modi arrived in Leh on Friday morning to review the situation 18 days after a violent faceoff in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh.

The bravery of Indian soldiers gave strong message to the whole world, said PM Narendra Modi in Leh.

In a strong warning to China, PM Modi said, ''Age of expansionism is over, this is the age of development. History is witness that expansionist forces have either lost or were forced to turn back."

While, PM Modi's Leh visit has irked China, which said that 'no side should escalate the situation'.

PM Modi interacted with personnel of the Army, Air Force and ITBP.

Tensions escalated at the India-China border after reports of a violent face-off at Galwan valley on June 15 when Chinese troops attempted to unilaterally change the status quo.

PM Modi arrived in Leh at 8.15 am after which he met Army officers at Nimo. 

The Prime Minister, CDS Rawat and Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane were briefed by 14 Corps Commander Lieutenant General Harinder Singh on the current situation at the LAC.

PM Modi and General Rawat's visit to Ladakh assumes great significance due to the prolonged face-off between the armies of the two countries.
