New Delhi: India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day today (August 15, 2021) with a series of events under 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav'. Several parts of the nation, including Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Srinagar’s Clock Tower at Lal Chowk were illuminated in the colours of the national flag.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort in Delhi. Prime Minister unfurled the national flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort. Additionally, President Ram Nath Kovind paid tribute at the National War Memorial on Independence Day. Defence Minister, the three Service chiefs, Chief of Defence Staff were also present at the venue.
To mark the achievements of the athletes in the Tokyo Olympics, this year special invites for the ceremony have been sent out to all the Olympians who won a medal. The celebrations would be centered around the theme ‘Nation First, Nation Always’.
