Pushkar Singh Dhami will be the third chief minister of the state in nearly four months. Dhami belongs to the Kumaun region. Notably, the last two chief ministers were from the Garhwal region.

Never been a minister in state government
The two-time MLA from Khatima in the Kumaon region's Udham Singh Nagar district constituency, Pushkar Singh Dhami (45) will be the youngest chief minister of Uttarakhand.
Notably, Dhami has never been a minister in the state government and now is all set to swear in as the chief minister, overlooking many senior leaders.
"A common party worker has been given a chance to serve the state. I am thankful to the party`s high command," Dhami told media persons here.

Protege of former CM Bhagat Singh Koshyari
Dhami served as the president of BJP Yuva Morcha, Uttarakhand twice between 2002 and 2008. Dhami is believed to be a protege of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
Dhami will be the 11th Chief Minister of the hill state and will replace Tirath Singh Rawat who resigned on Friday.

Pushkar Singh Dhami thanked the party's central leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP president J P Nadda for choosing a common party worker like him for the top job saying his party was the first in the country to do something like this.
He also expressed a sense of pride in the fact that India was distributing anti-Covid vaccines among other countries.
"This is the true spirit of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam (the entire universe is family). This is the spirit behind the Prime Minister's Mantra of Sab ka saath, sab ka vikas sab ka vishwas," he said.
