Shama Sikander faced sexual harassment at 14, recalls horrific MeToo incident

New Delhi: Actress Shama Sikander became a household name—all thanks to her successful stint on television. The stunner of an actress has featured in some hit TV shows such as 'Yeh Meri Life Hai', 'Baal Veer' among others.

With several Bollywood biggies being named in the ongoing #MeToo wave, Shama in an interview with BollywoodLife.com opened up on her own story. She recalled how once she too faced sexual harassment at the age of 14.

Shama said, “During the initial days of my career, when I was 14, a director put his hand on my thigh. I, immediately said no and shook him off. He told me, 'You think, you are going to be a star yaha koi nahi chodega tumhe. If not a director, an actor or producer might exploit you. You cannot grow without that. I was a 14-year-old who came with big aspirations and dreams.”

When asked to react on allegations against popular TV and film personlity Alok Nath, she quipped, “It was quite shocking for me. I haven't worked with him and heard of such instances.”

She added that often people get associated with the on-screen persona of an actor and don't really see beyond that. Shama maintained that now if so many people have come forward with their stories, they must be heard.

Shama further made her point by saying that in this industry, people don't really understand the meaning of 'consent'. When asked to comment on what she feels about those who are questioning the intent of sharing these stories after so many years, she said all those questioning the survivors for sharing incidents after so long are dumb.

Shama was last seen in Vikram Bhatt’s web series, Maaya and she is quite an avid social media user.
