New Delhi: The legendary superstar of Hindi cinema, Shashi Kapoor left us all teary-eyed on Monday evening (December 4, 2017). The dashing megastar ruled the silver screens for more than four decades and his charisma continues to enchant many aspiring young actors.

Shashi Kapoor battled a prolonged illness and breathed his last in Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He was 79. Randhir Kapoor, son of veteran actor Raj Kapoor told PTI, "Yes he has passed away. He had kidney problem for several years. He was on dialysis for several years.”

The noted actor's last rights were performed at Mumbai's Santacruz Crematorium on Tuesday. Several senior actors and other Bollywood celebrities were seen paying their last respects to the mortal remains of the classic actor.

From Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Bunty Walia to Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Shakti Kapoor, Salim Khan, Satish Shah among others reached the crematorium.

Shashi Kapoor was cremated with state honours around noon at the electric crematorium.The actor-producer's body was taken to the crematorium from his Juhu home in an ambulance at 11.45 am. There was an ocean of fans gathered around just to catch the last glimpse of the legend amid heavy rains in the city.

His three children -- sons Kunal and Karan and daughter Sanjna -- were there as were other members of the Kapoor family and scores of film personalities to say their goodbyes to the actor who straddled the worlds of commercial and art house cinema.

About a dozen policemen draped the actor's body in tricolour, which was later removed for the rituals. There were three rounds of fire to honour the late actor, who had spent more than four decades in Hindi cinema. This was followed by a minute's silence.

The Kapoor senior featured in as many as 148 films in his illustrious career. The legendary star's death has left a void in Indian cinema which none can fill.
