Mumbai: Veteran write-lyricist Javed Akhtar’s ‘if a hardly literate player or a wrestler’ has offended former wrestler and coach – Mahavir Phogat.

Slamming all those who were trolling Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of a martyred soldier, for her ‘Pakistan did not kill my father, war did’ placard act, Akhtar had tweeted: “If a hardly literate player or a wrestler troll a pacifist daughter of a martyr its understandable but whats wrong with some educated folks (sic).”

Here’s how the senior Phogat responded: “अपने आप को देश के प्रति समर्पण करने वाला व्यक्ति से ज्यादा ज्ञानी अपनी मातृभूमि पर कोई नहीं होता ।

जय हिंद।@Javedakhtarjadu (sic).”

“यहाँ उम्र बीत गयी देश को मेडल दिलाने में, और वो एक पल नहीं लगाते अनपढ़ बताने में। @Javedakhtarjadu (sic).”

The Phogat sisters too had something to say to Akhtar’s tweet. Here’s what they wrote:

Here’s what led to the heated exchange of tweets – Virender Sehwag came up with another placard act that read : “I didn’t score two triple centuries, my bat did it.” This instantly reminded one of Gurmehar’s placard post.

Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda shared a hearty laugh on reading Sehwag’s witty post. Soon, the actor and the former cricketer were slammed for being insensitive towards Kaur. Some people even went on to make remarks about the community they belong and the state they hail from.

This angered Geeta and Babita Phogat, who hail from Haryana and soon a heated argument on Twitter commenced.
