Locals in Sambalpur in Odisha vandalised the Ainthapali Police Station and set it on fire after the death of an accused in jail. The accused who died in jail was behind bars in connection with charges of theft.

SAMBALPUR: Locals in Sambalpur in Odisha vandalised the Ainthapali Police Station and set it on fire after the death of an accused in jail. The accused who died in jail was behind bars in connection with charges of theft.

The prisoner had been detained by police on Thursday night. 

Confirming the incident, Sambalpur SP said that nearly 200 people had gathered outside the station. "There was a custodial death last night. 150-200 people gheraoed the station and burnt it down," Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora said.

He also said that following the incident police forces were deployed to maintain law and order. He added that the situation has been brought under control.
