Heavy rains likely in several parts of Odisha

The system is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours, likely to move north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast.

Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are likely to receive heavy rains during the next 24 hours as the deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into cyclonic storm `Mora`, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

The cyclonic storm lay centred over the Bay of Bengal, about 590 km south-east of Paradip, said an IMD release.

"The system is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours. It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast on Tuesday," said the release.

Under its impact, rain and thundershower may occur in many districts of coastal Odisha and some areas in the interior region.

The Bhubaneswar Met centre has issued Distant Warning Signal Number Two (DW-II) at Paradip and Gopalpur ports.

It advised fishermen to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
