'BJP with help of allies will form next Manipur govt'

BJP is on course to wrest power in Manipur for the first time even though it has bagged the second position in the recently concluded Assembly elections.

Imphal: BJP is on course to wrest power in Manipur for the first time even though it has bagged the second position in the recently concluded Assembly elections, a top party leader said. 

"We are confident of forming the next government in Manipur. The NPP has won four seats, LJP has won one seat," BJP leader N Biren told reporters. 

"Even though we have fought separately we are hopeful that they will join us as they are our partners in the NDA government. we will talk to the TMC and Independent candidates also," ANI quoted him as saying.

BJP has bagged 21 seats while the Congress has won 28 seats in the polls. 

The Saffron party is confident of forming the government with support of its NDA allies LJP, Naga People's Front (NPF) and Nationalist People's Party (NPP).

NPP, NPF and LPJ had fought the elections separtely.

Party state president K Bhabananda Singh said, "After the victory in the Lok Sabha elections, the party felt the need to increase its foot print in the northeast as the region is very important in our party's vision of overall development and a Congress-free India."
