Washington: A 19-year-old Colorado girl was arrested by the FBI after she was reportedly trying to join her lover in Syria, who is a radical ISIS militant. Shannon Maureen Conley, a licenced nurse, was arrested by the authorities when she was boarding a flight from Denver International Airport to Germany on April 8, en route to Turkey`s border with Syria, according to court documents unsealed on Wednesday.
Conley, accused of "providing material support or resources" to the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant /Syria (ISIL or ISIS) a designated terrorist group in the United States, was allegedly flying to Syria to marry her 32-year-old Tunisian lover whom she met online in 2013.
The militant, according to a affidavit, told her that he was fighting along with the ISIS in Syria and the terror group required nurses there.
The teenager had told her parents that she is going to marry her lover and had sought their blessings but they denied. She, anyway, intended to so and told her parents that a one-way airline ticket had been purchased for her. The girl`s father, John Conley, called the FBI to report the entire scenario and agents arrested her at airport April 8, as she prepared to board a flight to Turkey.
In November last year, Conley had converted to Islam and was also seen suspiciously taking notes around the Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada, where a 2007 shooting occurred.
During her investigation, according to the affidavit, Conley told that she was ready to wage Jihad and go overseas to fight. During the investigation, materials about jihad and al-Qaeda were also found at Conley`s house.
