Road accidents kill 25 people, hurt 29 in Egypt

 At least 25 people were killed and 29 others injured today in two separate road accidents in Egypt.

Cairo: At least 25 people were killed and 29 others injured today in two separate road accidents in Egypt.

In the first incident, 12 people were killed and 25 others injured when a bus overturned on a highway in the Red Sea city of Hurghada, around 500 kilometres southeast of Cairo, medical sources said.

Soon after the accident, 10 ambulances were rushed to the spot which taken the victims to separate hospitals.

The bus driver was taking hotel employees from Hurghada to Cairo and apparently lost control over the vehicle causing it to overturn, sources said.

The second incident reported from a desert road at Wadi Natrun town in Beheira governorate where 13 people were killed and four others injured when a microbus collided with truck laden with construction materials, about 125 kilometres northwest of Cairo, medical and security sources said.

Egypt has one of the world's highest accident rates due to careless driving and poor road and vehicle conditions.

The World Health Organisation ranks Egypt as the world's 10th worst country in road accidents. Around 12,000 deaths take place annually in road accidents.
