Brussels: Paris terrorist Salah Abdeslam, dubbed the world's most wanted man, on Monday believed to have been arrested by an elite team of Belgium Police from a safehouse here, a media report said on Monday.

Twenty-six-year-old Abdeslam was arrested after a heavily-armed police team raided a flat in Molenbeek, Brussels, according to a report published in MailOnline.

He is one of the three brothers believed to be involved in the French massacres where 129 people died on Friday. He has been the subject of a vast international manhunt.

Abdelsam, believed to be a getaway driver, went into hiding in Molenbeek, where the eight-strong ISIS terror cell may have planned the Paris raids

Abdeslam had managed to sneak into Belgium after the Paris attacks, Interestingly, French Police had stopped him on a motorway close to the Belgian border, just hours after the attack.

However, there have been conflicting reports about his arrest. Some media reports have claimed that it was not him. Belgian public broadcaster RTBF confirmed that one man has been arrested at the scene but it was not Adeslam, who is still on the run.

​Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a 27-year-old Belgian of Moroccan descent who allegedly led the group and had fought with the Islamic State group in Syria, remains at large. He has claimed in the IS English-language magazine Dabiq to have rejoined the group in Syria.

Both Abdeslam, a Belgium-based Frenchman who blew himself up outside a bar on Boulevard Voltaire, and Abaaoud lived in the Brussels district of Molenbeek which has a reputation as a hotbed of Islamist militancy.
