Harare: Two Pakistani men arrested in
Zimbabwe as they tried to enter South Africa were fined USD
200 each for using forged travel documents, a state daily said
on Saturday.
Imran Muhammad, 33, and compatriot Warraich Chaudhry
Pervez Ahmed, 39, were charged with breaching the immigration
act.
They will remain in custody pending deportation to
Pakistan.
State media had originally linked at least one of the
men to the 2008 Mumbai attacks but police said the terrorism
charges were "misrepresentations in the media."
The Herald newspaper said they were each fined USD
200.
"The court also slapped the two with a wholly
suspended three-month jail term on condition they do not
commit a similar offence in the next three years," the paper
reported.
Prosecutors said the two were found with fake Tanzanian travel documents with different names from the ones
on their passports and did not go for immigration checks at the Beitbridge border post.
