Moderate quake jolts southwest China

A moderate quake of 5.5-magnitude jolted southwest China's Yunnan Province on Sunday.

Beijing: A moderate quake of 5.5-magnitude jolted southwest China's Yunnan Province on Sunday.

The quake struck Cangyuan, an autonomous county where many of China's Wa ethnic group live, at 6:24 pm local time, according to China Earthquake Networks Centre.

No loss of life or property was reported.

The epicentre of the quake was monitored 11 kilometres beneath the surface, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Residents of Lincang City in the southwest of the province said they felt the tremor and their homes "shook from side to side".

An official with the county's publicity department said the earthquake was strongly felt for over ten seconds.
