Mexico City: Hurricane Odile rapidly grew into a category four storm as it bore down on Mexico`s Baja California peninsula, dumping heavy rains and triggering large, destructive waves.
Odile`s winds blew at 217 kilometers (135 miles) per hour, the US National Hurricane Center said in its 0900 GMT bulletin. It was located about 315 kilometers west of the port city of Manzanillo as it moved north-northwest at 24 kilometers per hour.
