New Delhi: Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha or Bakri Eid with gaiety across the world.

However, this year's celebration could coincide with the 15th anniversary of the terror attacks on New York and the Pentagon which claimed 2,996 lives and injured 6,000.

The date of Eid al-Adha celebration is fixed as per the lunar calendar.

Eid al-Adha, also known as the feast of the sacrifice, falls on the 10th day of the Dhu al-Hijjah lunar month and is also the third day of the Hajj pilgrimage.

Eid al-Adha commemorates the day when prophet Abraham was going to sacrifice his son but was instructed by God to offer an animal instead.
