Cairo: Fresh clashes broke out between supporters and opponents of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on Sunday claimed 28 lives while wounding dozens.
Pro-Morsi supporters had tried to barge in Cairo suburbs towards Tahrir Square, where pro-army supporters had gathered to celebrate the anniversary of an attack on Israeli forces in 1973.
On Saturday, Egyptian authorities had warned that anyone found protesting against the army would be treated as a foreign powers’ agent.
Police tried to disperse the protestors through fire shots and tear gas.
By Sunday afternoon state television had showed live footage from Tahrir Square and Alexandria showing many holding photographs of army chief General Abdel Fatah el-Sisi and waving Egyptian flags.
Hundreds were dead on August 14 when Egyptian authorities smashed two pro-Morsi sit-ins in Cairo. Later, a state of emergency was declared and curfew was imposed.
On Friday, pro-Morsi supporters held boldest demonstrations retaliating to the incident when troops had smashed their protest camps.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Hazem Beblawi has urged the civilians to unite for the betterment of the nation.
