New Delhi: The word 'ISIS' itself evokes fear in the minds of the people, the terror group infamous for its brutal executions in the Arab world, but there is also a small town by the same name in Australia where prevails peace and its residents are unwilling to change its historic identity just for namesake.

The town of Isis in Queensland is home to 6,000 people who live a tranquil life with beer, golf and community values.

Isis is a source of pride for its residents and they are refusing to let the extremist killers have it. Many institutions in the town also bear its name from Isis War Memorial Pool, Isis Club and Isis Hardware Store, the mirror.co.uk reported.

This tiny town of sugarcane farmers' community was founded in 1887 and named after the Isis River in England.

"The general opinion is that their actions should have no bearing on our historic name. After all, we had first use of it. Our community is proud of the name and what it stands for,” the report quoted Wayne Heidrich, the owner and editor of the Isis Town & Country newspaper, as saying.

"History teaches you a lot about the future and sometimes you have to stand up firm for what you believe in,” an ex-local mayor said.
