A Colombian father who forced his 11-year-old daughter to swallow dozens of cocaine-filled capsules and tried to make her a drugs mule was sentenced to more than 14 years in prison, authorities said Saturday.
Diego Mancilla Aguilar was convicted on charges of attempted aggravated murder, drug trafficking and use of a minor in the commission of a crime.
Mancilla made an agreement with prosecutors in which he was sentenced to 14.5 years in prison, a judicial source said. A judge signed off on the deal.
The man was captured November 21, 2014, three days after authorities discovered the child.
Doctors found that she had 500-600 grams (about 18 ounces) of cocaine inside her, contained in 104 capsules.
The girl had complained of pain when she returned to her mother`s house after spending time with her father.
According to authorities, the girl was supposed to have flown to Europe -- probably Spain -- with the capsules in her body.
Along with Peru, Colombia is one of the world`s largest producers of cocaine.
