Beijing: A former Chinese county official sentenced to five years in prison for raping a four-year-old girl was today retried after the victim`s family alleged that he got away with a lighter sentence.

The People`s Court in Daguan county in Yunnan province conducted the trial in a closed proceeding but did not deliver any verdict, the Chen Weibiao, the girl`s lawyer said.

Rape accused Guo Yuchi, a former official of Daguan, stood trial again following the "lenient" punishment he received.

Guo was convicted at a trial in September of raping the girl after taking her to his apartment.

Chen said the plaintiff provided new evidence in court today, showing that Guo gagged the victim with paper to prevent her from crying when he had committed the crime, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The previous verdict also rejected that the girl`s family be compensated.

But Guo agreed to pay the family 150,000 yuan (USD 24,615) in compensation in October, Chen said.

Chen said Guo should be given a longer jail term, citing a new guideline on tougher penalties for public servants involved in sexual offenses against minors.
