Quito: Just days after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Ecuador, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake shook the South American country on Tuesday, USGS reported.

There were no reports of death, injuries.

The quake was centred 70 km (44 miles) west-southwest of Esmeraldas at a shallow depth of 10 km, it said, not far from the epicenter of Saturday`s 7.8 magnitude quake, according to Reuters.

Witnesses said two strong tremors of about 30 seconds each woke people up and sent them running into the street.

Late Saturday, a 7.8-magnitude quake struck Ecuador`s Pacific coast in a zone popular with tourists. The death toll from that quake currently stands at 525 but was set to rise sharply as after authorities warned that 1,700 people were still missing.

More than 2500 people were hurt in the devastating quake that struck Ecuador's Pacific coast on Saturday.
