CPI-M worker dies in Bengal violence

A CPI-M worker on Wednesday succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack allegedly by cadres of West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress in North 24 Parganas district, an Election Commission official said.

Kolkata: A CPI-M worker on Wednesday succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack allegedly by cadres of West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress in North 24 Parganas district, an Election Commission official said.

"The incident took place in Haroa in North 24 Parganas on Wednesday. He later succumbed to his injuries. A case has been registered," the official said.

North 24 Parganas goes to the polls in the fourth phase on April 25.

Reports of violence were also reported from Nadia, Burdwan and Murshidabad districts where polling will take place on Thursday.

Three Trinamool workers were arrested after clashes with CPI-M supporters in Burdwan while in Nadia's Shantipur, a Congress candidate was allegedly attacked by Trinamool workers.

"Two people have been arrested in the case," the official said.
