British royal couple to visit Uttarakhand today amid high security

Dehradun: Elaborate security arrangements are in place in Dehradun and Rishikesh for Prince of Wales Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, who will begin their nine-day visit to India on Wednesday.

More than 600 police personnel besides a large number of PAC jawans have been deployed around places which form part of the royal couple`s itinerary, officials said.
The royal couple will arrive in a special plane at the Jollygrant airport here at 4:15 PM and leave for Rishikesh where they will take part in "Hawan" and "Ganga Arti" at Parmartha Niketan Ashram.

They will spend the night in a hotel in Narendranagar and attend a slew of programmes the following day in Dehradun to be hosted by the Indian Military Academy, the Forest Research Institute and the Doon School.

The royal couple will return in the evening to the Narendranagar hotel where Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna will host a dinner in their honour.

The nine-day India visit of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall which begins today from disaster-hit Uttarakhand is their most extensive trip to the country as a married couple.

The royal itinerary includes a meeting with President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari. The couple will also meet senior business leaders in Mumbai. Receptions for civic, business and cultural leaders in all the major locations of the tour are also on the agenda, the statement said.

The couple will then head to neighbouring Sri Lanka, where Prince Charles will represent her majesty the Queen at the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
