Kanpur: Three members of a family sustained serious injuries in a blast caused allegedly due to explosives kept inside their house in Hanspuram area of the district, police said on Wednesday.

A couple, Suresh and his wife Neeru, and their nine-year- old son, Deepak, sustained severe burn injuries in the incident. The ceiling of the house was also damaged by the blast last night, police said.

The blast occurred when Neeru was cooking inside the kitchen. The injured were admitted to Ursula Hospital, where their condition is stated to be critical, they said.

Police ruled out the possibility of a gas cylinder causing the blast. They said some explosive material kept inside the home might have triggered the explosion.

A combined team of forensic experts and police are probing the incident.
