Poster war between BJP-SP ahead of metro project inauguration

Ahead of the foundation laying ceremony of Kanpur metro project on October 4, a poster war has begun between SP and BJP to take credit for it.

Kanpur: Ahead of the foundation laying ceremony of Kanpur metro project on October 4, a poster war has begun between SP and BJP to take credit for it.

"The foundation-laying ceremony of the Kanpur Metro is scheduled on October 4 where UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and local MP Murli Manohar Joshi are likely to participate in the ceremony," Kanpur District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said.

The Chief Minister will also inaugurate other developmental projects during his visit here, he said.

The ceremony will be organised at the local Palika stadium for which preparations are in full swing.

The BJP and SP have come up with posters taking credit for the project even as it is a joint venture of the Centre and the state government.

While SP posters carry messages expressing gratitude towards Yadav, the BJP workers, through posters, are giving credit to their senior leader and local MP Joshi.

According to sources, the estimated cost of the proposed project connecting IIT to Naubasta is over Rs 5,000 crore.

Once operational, the project is likely to give the city commuters respite from the traffic congestions.
