Lucknow: A high-level team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will on Friday reach Badaun to begin probe into the gang-rape and murder of two Dalit teenaged sisters.

According to reports, a CBI team led by DIG Neeraj Kumar, nineteen other officials and forensic experts will arrive in Badaun to investigate the case and cross-examine the witnesses.

The CBI yesterday registered an FIR in the alleged Badaun rape case and the Akhilesh Yadav government handed over the probe to it after much criticism from several quarters.

The two cousin sisters aged 14 and 15 were allegedly raped and later hanged from a tree on May 27 in Katra Sadatganj village of Badaun district, causing a national uproar. All the six accused, including the key accused Pappu Yadav and a policeman, have been arrested in connection with the case.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Uttar Pradesh police initially investigated the Badaun gang-rape case.

The victims` family and political parties like the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party had advocated CBI probe into the case. The Centre had on Tuesday recommended CBI probe into the horrific incident.
Taking cognizance of the case, the National Commission for Women (NCW) demanded UP Chief Minister’s resignation in the wake of several rape cases being reported from the state.

Speaking to ANI, NCW chief Mamata Sharma slammed the Samajwadi Party government and demanded Akhiesh Yadav and Director General of Police AL Banerjee`s resignation.
Banerjee had said that property could be a motive behind the Badaun murder and that rape of one girl is not yet confirmed.

Crime against women have witnessed a sudden spurt in the state and, on an average, 10 cases of rape are being reported every day in UP.
