Badaun (UP): Uttar Prdaesh Chief Minister Akileh Yadav on Sunday termed the shocking gang-rape and murder of two teenage sisters here on Sunday whose bodies were found hanging from a tree in the village as an unfortunate incident.

“Badaun rape case is unfortunate event, have taken the necessary steps and the culprits have been arrested,” Yadav told reporters here.
The incident created nationwide furor after two cousins, aged 14 and 15 years old, went missing from home on May 27.

It was confirmed that they were gang-raped before being strangulated.

Although the police has arrested five accused - three brothers Pappu Yadav, Awadhesh Yadav and Urvesh Yadav and constables Chhatrapal Yadav and Sarvesh Yadav - in the case so far, the family of the victims alleged that the police failed to act after they went to report that their daughters were missing.

The search for the remaining two accused continued for the fourth day today.

Meanwhile, a day after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited the Badaun district, Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati and former Lok Sabha speaker, Meira Kumar today met the victims` family.

Crying foul against the local police, the victims` family demanded that the accused should be hanged publicly. The father of one of the victims said that when he complained to the police, he had been asked about his caste, after which no action had been taken.
The horrific case has blown up a caste issue in the state, pointing many fingers at the powerful Yadav community.

The barbaric incident has also exposed the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
