Allahabad: City Mayor Abilasha Gupta lodged a police complaint on Thursday regarding a "threat" she had received on social media platform Facebook wherein a person had claimed that he would "kill" her as well as her husband Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, a former Uttar Pradesh minister.

"I have met the Senior Superintendent of Police of Allahabad and submitted a written complaint, along with a screenshot of the Facebook post wherein one person had said that he would kill both me as well as my husband," Gupta told reporters.

"I have no idea who this person is and what could be the provocation behind posting such a comment online," she said.

Police sources said that the matter was being investigated and it was being verified whether the profile belonged to a "real person".

Nandi had survived a bomb attack outside his house in 2010, though a journalist was killed in the explosion.

His wife won the Mayoral election in 2012 as an Independent candidate supported by BSP, which had decided not to field any nominee in the local body polls.

However, the couple soon fell out with the party which expelled them in March, 2014.

Nandi, thereafter, joined the Congress and contested as the party's candidate from Allahabad Lok Sabha constituency, but finished fourth.
