Pratapgarh: At least 50 people were injured as lawyers and police clashed on the District and Sessions Court premises here following a row over parking of vehicle.

The trouble started when an Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel and lawyer Anwarul Hasan entered into a heated debate after the latter parked his car near a PAC camp.

The PAC personnel allegedly attacked Hasan with the butt of his rifle resulting in injuries, official sources said.
Reacting strongly to the attack on their colleague, lawyers staged demonstration and raised slogans. Police and PAC personnel resorted to a lathicharge to disperse the protesting lawyers, sources said, adding that at least 50 people including five policemen were injured in the incident.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) Suresh Chand Rawat confirmed that police had to resort to lathicharge to control the situation.

Sources said seven lawyers, including Anwarul Hasan, have been hospitalised and they have also submitted a complaint against policemen and PAC jawans deployed at the court complex.
