Tamil Nadu polls: Congress, DMK yet to finalise seat-sharing, says Azad after meeting Karunanidhi

Chennai: Senior Congress leader and Leader in Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad met DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Friday to discuss the seat-sharing and strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

After meeting the DMK supremo, Azad said, “We discussed election strategy with DMK leadership.”

On the contentious seat-sharing issue, the Congress leader said, “there were talks on seat-sharing, but nothing was finalised.”

“We've given some time to DMK and we will also discuss among ourselves,” Azad maintained.

Congress had last month announced that it will contest the Tamil Nadu elections in alliance with the DMK.

Congress had contested the last Lok Sabha elections on its own and had drawn a blank. It had contested the last Assembly elections along with DMK but secured just five seats. Assembly strength in the state is 234.

Congress is out of power in the key southern state for nearly five decades and has generally been aligning with either of the Dravidian party- DMK or AIADMK. It has contested alone too but without much success.
