Suspect in spurious liquor racket held in Erode

A 47-year-old man hailing from Kerala, suspected to be involved in a spurious liquor racket, has been arrested.

Erode: A 47-year-old man hailing from Kerala, suspected to be involved in a spurious liquor racket, has been arrested, police said.

Kishore alias Anthony of Kakkanad in Kerala's Ernakulam district was arrested yesterday, SP Sibi Chakravarthy said in a release.

He was allegedly involved in running a spurious liquor unit near here.

     He was also allegedly involved in a number of rectified spirit smuggling cases in Coimbatore, Tirupur and other districts.

     The man is being questioned.

     The release said police suspect that the man might be involved in operating some spurious liquor units in Tiruvannamalai and Thanjavur districts. He is being questioned, it added.

     On November 18,police unearthed a spurious liquor factory near Chitode and seized 104 plastic cans of rectified spirit (each containing 35 litres of spirit), over 9000 small bottles (180 ml) of spurious liquor and more than 30,000 corks and some bundles of popular firm liquor labels.

     Five persons have been arrested and search for few more accused in the case are on.
