Colombo: Sri Lankan expressways will remain toll free on Monday to enable people reach polling centres to cast their votes in the country`s parliamentary polls which kicked-off earlier in the day.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister`s Secretary Saman Ekanayake has instructed the officials not to charge a fee from the vehicles on expressways from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm, Colombo Page reported.
The instructions were given to the Road Development Authority and to the highways ministry, the information department said.
Ekanayake said that this decision was taken for the convenience of the voters who travel from remote areas to cast their votes.
