Lahore: Demands have been growing in India of late to bring the Koh-i-Noor diamond back from British Queen Elizabeth-II.
But now, India has a competition – that too from Pakistan.
The Lahore High Court has admitted a petition that seeks to issue directions to the Pakistan government to bring back the famed diamond.
As of now, Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan has asked the registrar office’s to put the petition before an appropriate bench.
The registrar's office had earlier objected to the petition saying the court had no jurisdiction on the matter as it related to the British Queen.
The petition was filed by an advocate named Javed Iqbal Jaffery who alleged that the British had snatched the diamond from Dalip Singh and took it to the United Kingdom.
As per Wikipedia, the Koh-i-Noor diamond was found at Kollur Mine, currently in Andhra Pradesh, likely in the 13th century.
At present, the diamond is set in the front of the British Queen's crown, and is part of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom.
