Magical `Aura` glove makes music with wave of hand

Engineering students have developed a new electronic musical instrument ` Aura`, which can create music by making hand gestures in the air.

Washington: Engineering students have developed a new electronic musical instrument ` Aura`, which can create music by making hand gestures in the air.

The gloves developed by students from Cornell University are fitted with sensors that report the position and orientation of the hand in a magnetic field.
The hand positions are converted to signals in the universal MIDI language through an interface and then the signals are fed to a synthesizer.

Ray Li, who came up with the idea of an instrument played by gesturing in the air in collaboration with programmer Michael Ndubuisi, said that the goal was to create the most intuitive instrument.
Li added that they are trying to capture those intuitive gestures and by make music with their instrument, a musician will be able to create a whole song on stage with nothing.
