Excavation work of Sarasvati river to be completed soon

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is the Chairman of Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board (HSHDB), today said that in the first phase, excavation work of mythical Sarasvati river from its origin point to Kurukshetra in three districts will be completed soon and directions have been issued to complete the work at war footing.

Chandigarh: Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is the Chairman of Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board (HSHDB), today said that in the first phase, excavation work of mythical Sarasvati river from its origin point to Kurukshetra in three districts will be completed soon and directions have been issued to complete the work at war footing.

The Chief Minister said that budget amounting to Rs three crore has been made available to the Board during the current financial year which would be spent on setting up of office, construction of palaeo-channel, digging of bore wells, carbon dating and other works.

He said here that three-day 'Sarasvati Mahotsav' would be celebrated on the occasion of 'Basant Panchmi' in three districts - Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Kaithal - in which information regarding Sarasvati would be given to people and literature would be distributed.

Also, some scholars would inform people about the findings done so far about the Sarasvati, he said, according to an official release.

The Chief Minister said that a steering committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, D S Dhesi so as to deal with any problem arising in the rejuvenation work of Sarasvati.

The committee, includes Additional Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries of Public Works (Building and Roads), Tourism, Agriculture, Irrigation, Cultural Affairs, Town and Country Planning and Revenue departments.

He said that provision would be made to keep books, research papers and other materials related.
