New Delhi: So, you thought only humans have the jealousy trait in them? Well, even dogs feel jealous and get possessive when it comes to the love of their master.
According to researchers, dogs are not only loyal companions, but the bond between dog and owner may go further than just a need for security and food, and extends to emotions like jealousy. Dogs` behaviour changes dramatically when they see the affection of their owner being divided with a rival pet and start behaving like babies.
According to the study by researchers from UC San Diego, the canines exhibit behaviors like snapping or pushing their owners. The findings support the view that jealousy evolved to secure resources, not just in the context of sexual relationships but also in any of a wide-range of valued relationships, such as competing for parental resources such as food, attention, care, and affection.
The study was published in the journal PLOS ONE.
