Now, 'metal ball' fusion reactor that can power earth forever

London: Scientists have developed a metal ball shaped fusion reactor that may be able to save the world by powering it forever.

The little ball of metal has been created by boffins at Lockheed Martin and can produce infinite amounts of power without the need for fuel and can even send us to Mars and back, the Daily Star reported.

Lockheed's website explains the technology saying that to mimic the energy created by the sun and control it here on earth, they are creating a concept that can be contained using a magnetic bottle, which is able to handle extremely hot temperatures, reaching hundreds of millions of degrees.

The heat energy created using this compact fusion reactor will drive turbine generators by replacing the combustion chambers with simple heat exchangers and the turbines will then generate electricity or the propulsive power for a number of applications.
